The health benefits of thermal spring water have been known since Roman times. Both the body and the mind feel good when they meet thermal spring water, whose minerals and substances help to restore balance.

What is thermal spring water?

Thermal spring water comes from thermal springs. The water from these hot springs comes from the depths of the Earth, where it is heated by geothermal activity (the natural heat of the Earth, which also causes the lava to melt). These hot springs are a source of tourism around the world due to their skin healing benefits. Hot water can contain more dissolved solids than cold water, so hot springs are often high in minerals. Thermal spring water is pure and rich in minerals due to the process in which it is manufactured.

What does thermal spring water contain?

First, thermal spring water contains water, but the mineral content of certain thermal water depends on where it comes from. Minerals include chlorides, sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium. It also contains gaseous nitrogen inside which is not reactive, and which acts as a propellant to spray water.

Here are some health benefits of thermal spring water:

1. Reduces inflammation

Thermal spring water is commonly used for a lot of inflammatory conditions, including atopic dermatitis (eczema), burns, psoriasis, and ichthyosis, because it soothes the skin, in addition to its moisturizing effect.

One study showed that a La Roche-Posay gel containing thermal spring water reduced the irritation caused by sodium lauryl sulfate. Another study showed that an Avène cream containing thermal spring water reduced the severity of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and decreased the number of bacteria that cause inflammation on the skin. Avène has also reduced severe exfoliation which is usually a side effect of using tretinoin as a treatment for acne.

2. Helps all skin types

Thermal spring water can be used safely and effectively for all ages and skin types, including sensitive skin.

3. Moisturizes

Thermal spring water helps to soothe dehydrated skin and moisturizes it easily. Some hot springs have been mixed with essential oils or fruit essences and can be left on the skin.

4. Sets the make-up

There are only water-based thermal spring waters, but also some that contain additional ingredients (botanical extracts or essential oils). Pure thermal spring water can also be used to set make-up. Spray a layer of thermal spring water immediately after applying the cosmetics.

5. Protects against UVA/UVB rays

Thermal spring water has been found to protect cells from damage caused by UVA/UVB rays. Selenium, zinc and/or copper are thought to be responsible for this effect, as they are important for the normal functioning of antioxidant enzymes.

6. Helps protect the skin from free radicals

In addition to UVA/UVB rays, another factor to consider is pollution. Thermal spring water has a natural anti-free radical effect.

7. Cures various diseases

Thermal spring waters are classified according to temperature in hypothermal (21 – 35°C), thermal (35 – 45°C), or hyperthermal (above 45°C). Thermal spring water treats various skin conditions (such as dehydration, scarring, seborrheic dermatitis, acne), digestive/hepato-biliary/renal/reno-urinary disorders.

8. Minerals restore balance

Thermal spring water contains a lot of minerals that enter our body: iron, sulfur, or CO2. Its health benefits depend on its mineral content. Iron, for example, is good for anemia or weight loss, while sulfur improves the appearance of the skin.

9. It is easy to transport

The major advantage of thermal spring water is that these sprays can be easily taken in your purse, in your gym bag/beach bag, or even on a plane. Thermal spring water can be used anytime and anywhere to invigorate the skin.
